    I know I am asking for massive cerebral hemorrhaging by even trying, but does any one know how to get a radeon 9700 working with 3d support.

    I am running slack 10.2 on a 2.4 kernel
    I used the "new and improved" ati installer to get my card running

    I tried installing return to castle wofenstein to test it, and it was a freaking slide show. I had to drop to a command prompt outside of x just to shut it down.

    I wish I could go nvidia with this box, but its my work computer

    ati I like your cards in winblows, but how long are ya gonna *#@$ linux?

    in case it will help, i ran glxgears after installing the driver, and i got frame rates of 3000+, but games still are crappy
