problem with external modem
I have installed Debian Linux i my system.
I've baught an external V.92 Planet serial modem and i'm trying to set a dial up connection. Based on the following tutorial
http://www.aboutdebian.com/modems.htm
i've changed the following files : /etc/chatscripts/provider
and /etc/ppp/peers/provider.
I've changed the options there and using the "pon" command from bash i'm trying to connect.
However although the modem is opening the line is not dialing to my ISP.
Any idea anyone?
TO mention i'm new in Linux.
Any help appreciated

I used pppconfig to configure my connection...
Pay attention to your national settings... living in Italy I have to setup ppp system to don't detect the carrier signal...When using Windows, have you ever told "Ehi... do your business?"
