Proper detection of soundcard: Audigy LS
Hi folks,
I'm running Debian Sarge (stable) on a P4 machine. I haven't been able to get my soundcard to work, despite quite a bit of effort. This is something that I have given up on in the past a couple of times (for lack of time), but I always come back to it. It's not that I really need sound, it's just that it would be fun to get it working despite the challenges. The card works fine under Win XP, as well as Ubuntu and Knoppix, and since the driver is present under Sarge's version of ALSA, there's no reason it shouldn't also work on Debian Sarge.
Here is a thread I found on this forum about the card on Debian: Debian forum thread
For reference, here is a previous thread from the Linux Questions forums: LQ thread. There is already a lot of relevant information there that I won't post here unless its requested again.
I previously spent a lot of time learning about ALSA and this specific card, as well as many other topics. However, from the LQ thread you can read that I got stuck on the detection of my soundcard. I think the problem may not be with ALSA at all. From other posts I have seen that the output of lspci for this card generally looks something like this:By contrast, my lspci output looks like this:Code:0000:00:05.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Audigy LS
For all I know there could be some kind of conflict with the mainboard chipset. For whatever reason, the card itself doesn't seem to be detected correctly by the system, which is why I am posting this in the hardware forum.Code:# lspci 0000:00:00.0 Host bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS 645xx (rev 02) 0000:00:01.0 PCI bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Virtual PCI-to-PCI bridge (AGP) 0000:00:02.0 ISA bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS963 [MuTIOL Media IO] (rev 04) 0000:00:02.1 SMBus: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS]: Unknown device 0016 0000:00:02.5 IDE interface: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 5513 [IDE] 0000:00:03.0 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 0f) 0000:00:03.1 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 0f) 0000:00:03.2 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.0 Controller (rev 0f) 0000:00:03.3 USB Controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 2.0 Controller 0000:00:07.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): VIA Technologies, Inc. EDIT:
Here is some more complete info from lspci -v

Is anyone willing to help me troubleshoot? I'm not exactly a guru, but I am willing to try one more time to make this thing work.
Cheers,
Mike
