    recognizing hard drives on the fly.


    i was wondering if there are any commands in linux that can detect hard-drives on the fly, do I need to shutdown the machine and bring it up to detect a new hard-disk or can I detect it on the fly like in solaris?
    distro is redhat9 with kernel 2.4
    Fixing Unix is better than working with Windows.
