Core 2 Duo?
Just wondering if it will work with linux. I'm planning on building a computer and I have decided to go with the C2D E6300 (cuz I'm broke, otherwise I'd get a better one), I just got my motherboard today but probably won't have the computer finished until late december. Anyway, the OS I'm planning to use is SuSE, if anyone has any experience or knows anything, let me know.

The Core 2 Duo is an X86_64 compatible, as far as I know, which means any X86 distro should work. I know the Core Duo was X86 compatible.

I'm running Debian Etch on a Core 2 Duo right now.
The Core 2 Duo is derived from the Pentium M (it uses the speedstep_centrino module for CPU frequency scaling). You will have no problem with it that's for sure. Even with the stock fan, it keeps itself cool and quiet at all times.
I had issues with the motherboard though, which is a Asus P5B (Intel 965 chipset). The i965 chipset is not that well supported (support was introduced in kernel 2.6.16), but in my experience it only works well with 2.6.18 and up.
So I had to use an installer based on Linux kernel 2.6.18, but that wasn't too hard to find."To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."

Alright
. Thanks for the info, real good to know. The most recent version of SuSE would have the 2.6.18+ kernel right?

Suse 10.1 has a 2.6.16.13 kernel. If you are going to finish in late December, 10.2 should be out by then and you will be good to go!
