slow connection using external 56k modem via serial port
I have an external modem connected to a serial port on an FC2 system running kernel 2.6. The max speed that I should be able to get is around 6 KBytes/s ( 56kbits/s). After some reading, I found that the max realistic speed is around 4 KB/s due to line noise etc....I am only able to get 1kb/s speeds using an ssh based file transfer ( scp, rsync ) . Is their any adjustments or settings that I can make to get my speed up to where it is supposed to be or does ssh chew up bandwidth for its encryption? Any help is very much appreciated.
