problem installing nic driver
I have a silan sc92031 pci fast ethernet adapter. i want to install it in redhat fedora 1. kernel 2.4.x.x. I have got the drivers, extracted also, but as the readme file says "Compile the driver source files and it will generate sc92031.o, and copy it to correct driver installation path (The installation directory
is different in different kernel versions. In 2.4.x kernel, the path is
/lib/modules/KERNEL_VERSION/kernel/drivers/net/, and in 2.2.x kernel,
the path is /lib/modules/KERNEL_VERSION/net/)
# make install
i m not able to understand how to compile the driver source files and from where can i get sc92031.o file.
Pls help,
thanx in advance

Is there a makefile in the directory where you extracted the source to?

yes, there is a makefile and a sc92031.c file.
actually i do not know how to use the makefile,
I tried using make command by different options and by giving different paths, but it gives the error message "makefile:24 linux kernel source not found."
The readme file says to compile the driver source file, and it will copy the sc92031.o file to /lib/modules/KERNEL_VERSION/kernel/drivers/net/
Pls find the readme file along with this and help me.
thanx

Fedora Core 1? This is a very old revision- You're going to need to upgrade I think because AFAIK they don't make any new packages for that release still.

why not possible in this version?

...it might not be possible because it's a really old version. Although, if you still have the FC1 disks sitting around, the kernel source package should be on them.
