I have spent the better part of this entire day trying to get my brand new Plextor to write at a rate better than 1.4x, and now I'm about as frustrated as I have ever been. I have been to more websites, more threads than I can count in 10 minutes time, and alas I'm still stuck with horrible performance.

I am replacing an NEC-3550 that at least wrote faster, but never produced a single good Dual Layer disc. Right this very moment I'm writing .70x to a 4x Fuji DVD+RW rated 4x.

CdRecord 2.01.01a11
AMD64 3400
Plextor PX-760A, Master on Secondary IDE port (/dev/hdc)
Gentoo Linux
Two internal PATA HDs on Primary IDE port (/dev/hda, hdb)
Two internal SATA HDs, one is boot (/dev/sda , sdb )

I have messed around with kernel settings, boot settings, etc. Nothing is helping. Soooooo, will someone please speak up and help a brotha out and clearly state what should and should not be used in the .config to build the kernel to properly run this drive at the speed it should be.

I am always trying to stick with Linux, but it's nightmares like this that really make you question yourself. In hindsight after having read about Plextor's antics with trying to stiffle people from using all the drive's features, I think I'll never buy them again.
