I acquired a Camcorder Sony DCR-HC40(E). I am using fedora 5 with kernel 2.6.18. On my pc I only have a USB port .I can catch the pictures saved in the memory stick of camcorder . I would like also to catch the 'live video stream' from camcorders USB port.Under Windows it is feasible . And I would like to make it work on my linux os.If you have any idea about this please share with me

I was wondering if you have found anything.
I think it is possible in principle. The camera would set up some kind of network device, internally as Ethernet over USB, and maybe you could even catch the stream with a normal video player program.
