no sound sigmatel audio

i am running musix linux and i cant get my sound card to work on my laptop a dell inspiron. it has sigmatel audio chip.
if i type in sudo aplay -l i get no soundcards found. any hope to fix this. i'm a newbie

first, check out http://www.alsa-project.org/, and have a look in the card list for your card. If it is not there, then I suggest trying out OSS sound drivers. Also, try updating the kernel ( do it through the package manager) or you alsa drivers. If you only trying to play sound throguh one application, try another application, and see if that works.
