I've had bad experiences with linux and I must have reinstalled and reformatted the hard drive like 20 times. Can I somehow damage my hard drive by reformatting too many times?

No, i've done it hundrededs of times on many diffrent hdd's and only had one faiure of a hdd, and that was a known defect with that particular drive in my lappie.....but then you can also say that eventualy everything fails......but u will probably get a new hdd for more room befor that happens...

formatting
the only way you could damage your hard drive would be by formatting it with a magnet.
