Hard Drive Failure?
Hello all,
I'm running a 4 linux computers with mandriva and recently tried to use one of them only to get the errorWhen I checked the BIOS settings I noticed the boot order is CD then HDD. Also, I tried to find the Hard Drive in the boot list but couldn't find it. Another strange thing it did before the BIOS was to try and enter some sort of RAID utility which is strange because there is no RAID setup on that computer and it makes some weird clicking noises like its trying to spin. I'm a little stumped but think it could be that the Hard Drive failed.Code:Disk Boot Failure, insert system disk and press enter

Yes, sounds like bad hard drive. If you have another drive around try substituting it for the potentially bad drive.

It looks like Hard Disk failure only. Try Testdisk to check Partition Table. Its available in Parted Magic LiveCD. If its a damaged Partition Table, TestDisk will recover it.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

this might be a stupid question, however I downloaded parted magic, and I was wondering how I would run it on the computer with the bad hard drive?

It runs itself on OS (linux) that is contained on CD. Just put in drive and reboot.

I just add that you need to make certain you properly burn the .iso file to the blank CD as an image. If you simply copy the file to the CD, it won't work.

this is before the other error message.Code:DMI pooling data.......
- 08-01-2007 #8What are other error messages? Burn .iso image at lowest possible speed supported by your CD Burner package.this is before the other error message. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

before the "disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter"
- 08-11-2007 #10Either CD is not burned correctly or downloaded .iso image is corrupted. Check BIOS too. First Boot Device must be CD Drive.disk boot failure insert system disk and press enterIt is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
