I'm running my first linux distro: Vortexbox (Fedora based). It's on an old Pentium III machine with a GA-6VX7B-4X motherboard. I would like to have some control over the RPM of the CPU fan, I've tried pwmconfig but the motherboard doesn't support pwm. I'm looking at controling the fan via ACPI now. I've been googling it but because the learning curve is so steep am I none the wiser.
Is it possible to control the fan via any ACPI supportng motherboard?
What version of Fedora is this based upon? IE, what kernel are you running (post output of uname -r)?
I'm running Fedora release 14 (Laughlin) and Kernel:2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686.PAE.
Is there anything under the directory /proc/acpi/fan?
BTW, pwmconfig and fancontrol are intended to work together with lm_sensors. If the mobo doesn't support pwm, and there is no fan entries under /proc/acpi, then you are probably SOL. Does lm_sensors support your mobo?
lm_sensors does support my motherboard but it does not have pwm. I won't be at the computer for a few hours is the command I use ls /proc/acpi/fan?
so ls /proc/acpi would be a good starting point to see if fan shows up. Then move on to ls /proc/acpi/fan.Quote:
