You can get info about the CPU by looking at the contents of /proc/cpuinfo. Other stuff can be seen in the output of lspci and hwinfo (might have to download that last one).
I don't know of any projects to use all those programs and present all the output in some sort of alternate organization. That might be a fun thing for a budding young programmer to do! :idea: **me makes note of this for when me gets comfy with C++ and delves into GUI programming
