Challenging Sound Problem...are you up to it?????????
My brother is new to SuSE/Linux and decided to install ATI drivers, even though they require XFree86 and SuSE 9.2 uses X.org or something like that. Anyway, the install obviously failed so then he decided to run:
to get rid of the ATI drivers (as it says in their instructions). When he rebooted he returned to KDE with his normal video intact. But, now the sound card is dead, kind of. We tried restarting alsa and KMix now detects the sound channels and we turned the volume up. But all we get when we play anything is sound from the speakers. :)
rpm -e <package_name>
BUT, the sound coming from the speakers is static.
Any idea how to resurrect this... he seriously doesn't want to reinstall SuSE becomes its all setup up the way he likes it.
