So I have a 1TB MyBook removable hard drive that was working fine. I got the brilliant idea to reformat it using EXT4 instead of NTFS using Gparted. Now I can't get my Ubuntu 12.04 system to even recognize it when I plug it in. Wondering what I did wrong and if there is a way to fix it.
Any help out there?
The mount command plus fdisk -l plus cat /etc/fstab terminal readouts may shed some light in your thread with the

I could not get any output from fdisk -l.
You might need to either use /sbin/fdisk -l or sudo fdisk -l.Quote:

Well - problem solved. I saw it wasn't even recognized in fdisk and tried unplugging and re-plugging the hard drive while still plugged into the USB. Now it has recognized it. Thanks for your help. If you see any improvements I should make in my fstab let me know. I still don't fully grasp what I am doing in there.

Fstab entry by UUID is best instead of /dev/sdb so don't touch it. I see nothing needing changes. Since problem solved. Marked thread solved with thread tools. Only the original poster can mark the thread as solved.Quote:
