Failed to start x server
I just installed Ubuntu 5.10 on my computer and get the error "failed to start the X server" I get the same thing when booting from the hard drive or trying to boot from the live cd.
I am a real Linux newbie here, never been able to get a Distro running. tried Red Hat, Fedora Core, FC-2 and now Ubuntu and there always seems to be an issue.

Can anyone help me get this OS going ?
did you even install X?
My friend had the same problem installing it. How big is the harddrive?
hi I have the same problem too
I can't get any kind of linux installed of the same problem.
I can only use the slax live cd, you can try that
Mandriva has the propietary radeon drivers, so it's worth a shot trying Mandriva. If all goes well with that install, you probably won't have to do anything. What are the fatal error messages? Have you tried using vesa just to login? You should be warned that ati drivers for linux suck.
