Hard Drive Partitioning Turns Laptop Power Off Compaq Evo N610c

Hi. I have Ubuntu 8.04 installed on my Compaq Evo N610c. I wanted to shrink the partition size so I would have room for a multi-boot. So, I popped in the GParted Live CD, waited for it to finish scanning, and then told it to shrink my 26.75 GB partition (ext3) to a 8.0 GB partition. However, this seems too take a while, so when I walk off while I do this, when I come back the power is off. It seems the computer turns off for some reason during partitioning. What might be the cause of this?

Have you checked powersave setings in BIOS?
