hdd lacks performance
i have a new seagate SATA hdd but if i copy large files (about 700MB) i got only 12 Mb/sec.
but i should be at least 20 or 25 cuz the read performance is about 50 Mb/sec and the write performance is about 40 Mb/sec.
does anybody know whats wrong?
btw.: i got a 2.6.3 kernel if that helps a little bit
Is (u)dma enabled? Check with hdparm /dev/hdXX
I think the command you (might) need is hdparm -d1 /dev/myhardrive... This last bit might be hda1 or something similar.
dma is on and here's what hdparm says
i hope this can help a little bit.
multcount = 16 (on)
IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit)
unmaskirq = 0 (off)
using_dma = 1 (on)
keepsettings = 0 (off)
readonly = 0 (off)
readahead = 256 (on)
geometry = 19457 / 255 / 63, sectors = 312581808, start = 0
hdparm -t /dev/hde1
Timing buffered disk reads: 52 MB in 3.10 seconds = 16.80 MB/sec
is there a prob with the kernel?
cuz i get the following info aon boot time:
is this normal ?
