Very detailed title I know, but I don't quite know what is wrong with my PC.
It's a custom build using this motherboard.
This seemed to work find originally, but after I got a "free gift" with something on ebay that turned out to be a pirate DVD I started having problems.
First time I noticed something wrong I was using a Linux distro elive, going about my business the morning after watching the DVD on windows, when suddenly while browsing the net using elive things just crashed.
I seem to have trouble booting elive, windows or any other distro which I installed in place of these (even a live distro. Specifically, the problem I have when trying to boot a live distro is starting the x window.
Looking at the various signs I thought it must be a corrupt hard drive, but swapping the hard drive with a replacement doesn't seem to make a difference.
Tried loading the live CD of Kate OS (current stable release) and during startup while trying to load the x window session manager I got a message saying
... so sounds like it could be hard drive related, though I doubt I could have the same problem with all 4 of my hard drives that work fine in other machines. I think it must be a problem with an on board device ... tried google though couldn't find an answer.Quote:
