ide or scsi?
i have a question on s-ata harddisks. i have an onboard intel s-ata controller and the 2.4.26-r9 kernel installed with some patches using gentoos emerge.
when i use ide driver in my kernel for the s-ata drive i can read out the temperature using hddtemp and i can put the drive to sleep using hdparm. the problem is that if the drive is sleeping my cpu is 50% under load until i re-read the drive with hdparm -z.
if i'm using s-ata drivers in the scsi-section in the kernel-config i can't use hddtemp and hdparm.
where are the differences in the ide and scsi drivers for s-ata controllers?
and where are the advantages and disadvantages?
