Innocom External Modem
Well, I am trying to be a linux convert, but I am stuck with 56k and a winmodem and I don't want to mess with trying to get my winmodem working. So, I want to buy a new hardware modem. I am 99% sure that this one will work, but I have been wrong before (speaking of which, does anyone want an Aopen FM56-PX? :D):
True hardware modems, such as the one you listed, require no drivers to work. They need only an interface so the user can tell it what to do. With Linux, this is covered by pppd and, if you want, a GUI front end like KDE's kppp.
So, yes, that modem, or any other serial modem, will do the trick.
Thanks for the info. I was pretty sure that all serial modems were full hardware modems, I just wanted to double check because the last time I listened to just one person I ended up with the wrong modem.
