LCD Monitor Recommendations
There are two parts to this question.
- Have I done something foolish and killed my monitor, or is it just in its twilight years? As far as I can tell, it's operating at a supported resolution and refresh rate. However, it occasionally flickers, going from bright to dim and back again. This mostly happens when it returns from power-save mode.
- Which monitors would you recommend for someone with limited desk space? Widescreen would be nice but isn't a requirement. The most important thing is that it be easy on the eyes when working for long stretches. (I'm a computer science student.)
The current monitor is a Dell 1703FP. I've had it for at least 4 years at this point, and it has seen heavy use during that time. It's doing 1280x1024 @ 75Hz, which is a little higher than the quoted "optimum" but still within the supported range. It runs through a KVM switch connected to a Debian box and an XP box, although the latter is rarely used.
