Read Write head constantly moving in USB floppy drive not in use

I have had my usb floppy hooked up to my triboot linux / windows box and from the point i start the boot up process of my linux till i shut down my usb floppy read write heads sound like they are trying to read a "phantom" floppy if the drive is empty.

This does not seem to happen on windows or when the system is under BIOS control so i am not sure what i need to do to fix this problem.

While this is not a major problem it is rather annoying to listen to.

Does anyone have any advice to fix this problem or a line of thought i could use

Try and put in a floppy disk and then (in Linux) click on the drive and select "eject", this should put a stop to your problem.
If you still have problems with it then i think your USB drive is going.
The only other way is to disable it through your BIOS.
