Reg CPU temprature
Hi everybody,
I have one remote server with FC4 with Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
I am getting the following error messages frequently in /var/log/messages
get kernel: CPU0: Temperature above threshold
get kernel: CPU0: Running in modulated clock mode
I installed lm_sensors for knowing CPU temprature and FAN speeds.
#sensors-detect
#sensors
But sensors command is not showing any information about CPU and FANs
This is the output of sensors command
eeprom-i2c-0-50
Adapter: SiS96x SMBus adapter at 0xe600
Memory type: DDR SDRAM DIMM
Memory size (MB): 512
Does it mean CPU fans are not working properly.
Please tell me why I am getting the error message frequently and give the solution.
Thanks Inadvance,
Mummaneni.

I would get out of Linux - after it's been on for a while, reboot, and go into the BIOS mode. There should be a page there that reports the measured CPU operating temperature, and you can compare that to accepted ranges.
It's possible there's a problem with the CPU fan, but since the system boots up OK, it's more likely just the overall temperature of the system is too high(for example, perhaps you have a video card or addon card that is generating more heat than the default system fans can handle).
Determine the actual running temperature first, that will tell you what to do next.
