Toshiba a300 22z - sound and touchpad problem

I've had similar problems with newer Linux versions on my system. The "cure" for me is a warm reboot. If I shut down the system cold, and then reboot, it crackles whether I am playing streaming audio, or playing a video. If I reboot (not shut down), the problem goes away. I think the problem is in the current audio drivers. I've reported this to the ALSA bug list, but nothing has been reported back to me as to a "fix".
