Gnome 2.2 installation on Red Hat 8
Hi Everybody

Excuse for the newbie question
I am running Red Hat 8 and I've downloaded the source from http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/deskt...2.2.1/sources/ to try new gnome 2.2
and now I dont know how to install or run the compressed files. I also don't know which order I have to install them.
Thanks A LOT for all your help!

This is a very difficult procedure. I highly recommend you learn how to install all sorts of other packages before you tackle something highly complicated like the GNOME2.2 desktop.
That said.
If you _really_ want to install the latest GNOME stuff, get garnome. It is located at http://gnome.org/~jdub/garnome
Now don't say I didn't warn you. Don't say "why doesn't this work". It doesn't work because it is a mini-distribution of GNOME2.2 that is for testers and developers. It is meant to be one of the more up to date GNOME installations, but it is not meant to be rock-solid stable. If you want stable, wait for the RPMs from RedHat that is coming with RedHat 9.I respectfully decline the invitation to join your delusion.
