    Are you getting Job Control error?
    If you have Graphics Problem only then Alternate CD should work fine.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    I've found the following which directly adresses my problem :

    Dell Inspiron 1520 with Ubuntu-7.04 - Ubuntu Forums
