    ok...i'm now login in from my slax usb pendrive...

    will file changes in my distro now be saved? if i download something would it still be there? how do i update my /usr/bin/ ??

    i needed gcc, g++, intel fortran/gfortran in my /usr/bin for my project.

    lol.......haha...i got linux running from my pendrive...but it is abit small on size.

    is it possible for me to do the same thing for external hard disk? i.e treating it as a usb pendrive?

    you mean install it on the external hard disk???

    pen drive i have limited space as my project needed up to a few Gb to run at full capacity.

    Angry xp messes with MBR

    You will have to partition linux on a different partion because xp messes with MBR

    If your machine supports booting up from External Drive then its easy to install Linux in it. Make sure to install Boot Loader ( GRUB/Lilo ) in MBR of External Disk only.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
