Deleted boot dir now vista won't boot
I got a new comp for just linux so I was deleting the linux part off my comp with vista & at the same time I deleted the boot dir. now when I start my comp to boot into vista it just gives me a black screen that says gnu grub version etc. etc. The thing is the comp didn't come with a recovery disc or vista install disc since it was placed on a seperate partition from HP & it won't let me get into the recovery part at startup. Is there any way I can boot back into vista again without losing evrything? Thanks

Welcome to the forums!
To repair the Windows Vista MBR:
Boot from Vista install DVD
select Repair Your Computer
select Windows Vista
select Command Prompt
execute the following:
close Command Prompt windowCode:bootrec.exe /fixmbr bootrec.exe /fixboot
reboot
That should allow you to boot Vista again.oz
