login problem in gui

Hi All,

I have installed red hat linux 9 in the remote server.and i am trying to login to this remote server through XP. i cud login in text mode but when i m trying to switch to gui (using <ctrl> <alt> <f7> ) it is showing sme error .. n sme symbol ~

As i am new to linux. i dnt knw wat to be done.. can anybody pls help me out.
My issue is in switchin from Text mode to GUI.can anybody pls guide.

So if I get you right you want to tunnel X11 over SSH? (PuTTY)
THen you need to set -X (or whatever that is in PuTTY) when you connect.
And you need to run a X server on your box..
Also you need to init 5 first
