New computer, no OS.
Hi,
I'm pretty fimular with linux but I'm having trouble finding a small, light-weight distribution of linux.
I have a old computer that's going to my sisters once I can get it running with a OS. The computer runs great but I'm having trouble finding a small version of linux to run on it.
Here's the specs:
Motherboard: Some brand of compaq.
CPU: Intel P3 500MHz
Memory: 227MB of memory. I don't know the speed of them.
Hard Disk Space: One old 20GB HDD and a Western Digital 40GB HDD. I added the 40 gig.
A CD-ROM drive.
4 USB ports, two in the back and two in the front.
2 firewire ports, one in the front and one in the back.
It has a 3 1/2 floppy drive and a zip drive.
I don't want to put on Windows because my sisters like using a scripting program in GIMP called Python-Fu and Kolorpaint to make their graphics. They can do it on windows but the windows version doesn't have it.
So, my question to y'all is can you help me find a good distro for the computer?
At the moment, we've been running Puppy Linux on it but I'm looking for a more permanent solution.
Please help, thanks.
