    Ubuntu alternate installation over existing non-working Ubuntu



    I've burned the Alternate .iso onto a dvd. Will Ubuntu install in the same existing partition of the non-working one?

    You have to specify partitions in Partition Section during installation. Installer will detect existing SWAP partition itself. Just select ext3 partition, assign in / mount point and continue installation.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
