Cant seem to boot because I have a Sony

I have a Sony PCG-GR390 that the recovery disk has been lost. I have been using Linux at work for a while now and wanted to load up Ubuntu. But cant load from disk, even after going into the BIOS set up and changed to CD-ROM as the first boot.

Anyway to format or force the CD-ROM to boot before the SONY splash screen?

    Welcome to the forums!

The Sony brand shouldn't have anything to do with it. If you are properly booting a properly burned image on the CD, the BIOS should detect it at boot time and boot from that image. Check this HowTo for instructions regarding properly downloading, burning, and booting from a Linux CD:

Let us know how it goes.
