dual boot fedora 8 and ubuntu

I'm currently running fedora 8 and downloaded ubuntu (7.10 desktop).
I would like to dual boot, I have burnt the cd correctly and for some reason fedora still loads. The bios has always been set to boot from the DVD burner in my computer and it's never been changed. (I still think this might be an issue, even though it shouldn't be?)

Even pressing keys at the grub loader isn't helpful as I only get two options (fedora 8 15-137 or fedora 8 9-85).

Any ideas? do I need to reinstall fedora or is there a way of getting this to dual boot?
I've read it's best to partition fedora 8 in advance (eg. before/during installation), but I've already sort of established myself in this distro (saved files etc). It would be nice not to have to blow away the lot - although if it's necessary and easier I definitely can.

I'm reasonably comfortable navigating in the terminal or editing files.

that said it's obvious I'm new to linux

    thank you in advance.

The way I read what you've written is that the Ubuntu CD won't boot. If so I'd try burning a new CD. Or have you installed Ubuntu but still only have Fedora as the only choice in GRUB?

    Hi and Welcome !

First of all, make sure that CD/DVD drive is First Boot Device in BIOS. Press F2, Del or F8 keys at Startup. Check the order of Boot Up Devices in BIOS.

How did you burn .iso Image? It must be burned as Image only.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    all sorted

wow thanks for the excellent and quick response.
it's okay I've blown away fedora 8 for now so I'm just running Ubuntu 7.10.

XP decided to die as well so i had to reimage that as well.

    thank you anyway,
