    Mount problems

    Hello,

I just installed Redhat 9, everything went very well as far as I can tell. I am having a bit of trouble accessing the CD Rom though. It does not automount when I insert a disc. Also, I have tried mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom and mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom and I have tried the usermount gui. All of these attempts to mount the cdrom return the same message.

    Mount: Not a directory

Under /mnt i do see a cdrom folder but it has not items in it when I believe it should . . . Thanks for any help you can offer.

    gnome

in gnome right click on desktop and choose disks/CDROM from the popup menu.

    see if that works.

That does not seem to work either, same error. Thanks for trying though.

Install the strace package, then run "strace mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom" (you must run that as root) and see so that it actually is the mount syscall that fails. That might save a whole lot of unneccessary debugging. If you don't know how exactly to see what fails, run "strace mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom 2>&1 | grep ENOTDIR" and post the output here.

Thanks for the suggestion, looks to be a wealth of information when I do that. I will paste the output below (at least starting at where the directory error occurs). Thanks again.

I am having the exact same issue on an HP OminBook 4100 laptop. The install went fine, however I am now unable to mount any cd's.

I am posting the output from your suggestion dolda2000.

open("/dev/cdrom", O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = -1 ENXIO (No such device or address)
    try using /dev/hdc instead.

    mount("/dev/cdrom", "/mnt/cdrom", "vfat", 0xc0ed0000, 0) = -1 ENODEV (No such device)
When it calls mount, looks like its trying to use vfat as the filesystem which is incorrect with a cd. try mount -t iso9660
