Mandrake 9.1
I installed Mandrake 9.1 on my celeron 366@550 (5.5x100) 256mb SDRAM.
I installed the minimum packages, and i must have overlooked the modem setup.
when the install finished, i went in search of kppp, but it wasn't there. I eventualy installed it (my first rpm installation!). When i set it up, it told me there's no modem.
how do i install one?
thanks in advance

What kind of modem do you have? Sounds like it might be a winmodem.

Yes your modem needs to be plugged in before booting linux. Your modem will be /dev/ttySX where X = the serial port your modem is connected to, ie those are the com ports in windows.

Note, however, that the ttyS devices in Linux are zero-based, ie. COM1 in DOS is /dev/ttyS0 in Linux.
