Installing Suse 9.1 woes

Hi,

This is all new to me so please be gentle!

I am trying to install Suse Linux 9.1 by itself (ie, no Windows).

The installation starts then i receive the following message.

crc error
VFS: cannot open root device "<null>" or unknown-block (8,5)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block (8,5)

Also i have also seen another post very similar to this but i cuouldn't understand half of the replies as this is new to me!

so if someone could explain what i should do in very easy steps i would be very grateful!
