    From a terminal, run command: lspci and post the output if this is a pci sound card and not onboard (on the mother board). If it's an onboard sound device, it would be nice to know what chip set is on the mother board, or which mother board, or which make and model of computer.
    Knowing what kind of sound card you have might get some usefull help.

    I think if your sound card is from a known company then it will be automatically detected.All the drivers are loaded into the kernel as modules.So no need to install.
