could it be the cdrom-drive which needs to be replaced?

the CD drive reads everything else
thats it for Linux on my mac. But i have it on my PC lol...duh

Hey, come on! Of course there are other means of installing it. Most Linux distros support installing the system over the network, for example. Just mount the CD in your PC, put it on your FTP and install it with that.
