Why did you allocate small space to /dev/sda1 partition?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

In that case, you should install Vista first. Sometimes dual boot doesn't work if Windows OS installed after Linux.

oh, ok.
when i do install vista, how should i partition the hard drive?

/dev/sda1 -- Primary, NTFS for Vista
/dev/sda2 -- Extended, rest of free space
/dev/sda5 -- Logical ( inside Extended ), NTFS for data sharing between Linux and Vista.
/dev/sda6 -- Logical, 10-15 GB, ext3 for / of Linux
/dev/sda7 -- Logical, 512MB, SWAP
You can create 11 Logical Partitions inside Extended Partition. You can create 2 more Primary Partitions later on, if you need.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
