I do not know what to say about problem.
Sometimes grub sees hdd diferently then fdisk, if you have not try:
title XP on hd0,0
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
I don't think it will work but worth a shot.
Download below small script might give helpful info. Be sure to read the how to install/setup. Most of it will not be useful but some might be.
