If you have your 80GB drive set to first boot priority in the BIOS, that should have worked. I've occasionally had problems booting even when I copied an entry from another systems menu.lst file and could sometimes resolve it by using the chainloader entry for both windows and Linux installs.

Don't have any more ideas. I've never used BSD so don't know what impact that would have. Might be a good idea to decide in advance if you want to use Grub and then install your Linux OS last if you do reinstall.
