i only have one hd so the slave/master switch wont work and i lost the windows installation cd so i need to fix it without reformatting the drive . I believe that hal.dll is in the directory dev/hda2(windows root on my computer)/windows/system32 where as the error says <windows root>/system32 (when I go into the boot loader thing in the configuration panel and click modify it says the windows root in dev/hda2). i know for a fact the hal.dll file is in the system32 directory (mandrake wouldnt let me check so i used knoppix).so im thinking it may just be as simple as the bootloader is aiming at the wrong place. Is there anyway to correct this if this is the case (modify config file or something)?

Sorry for the slow reply, i spent the weekend building a new computer

anywho, i honestly dont think there is...i beleive its either the BIOS or else the boot loaders limit to not boot from anythnig over a certain size...dunno why, but thats what i ascertained...sorry....i havent a clue unless you had the exact config of my system lol...sorry...
