Yes you can... just download the ISO file for the distribution of your choice, burn it to disk as an image, then boot your computer using the installation disk:

If the system doesn't have a CD/DVD drive (such as many netbooks), you can install from a live USB thumb drive. See Unetbootin - it can build a bootable USB drive from either Windows or Linux for just about any current Linux distribution.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
