i'm not exactly sure what your question is, but all livecd's run without the need for a hard disk

As coopstah13 said, all live CD/DVD/USB's run without the need for a hard drive. They run entirely out of ram and the boot device. So, what exactly is your problem, or is this a general question? If you are trying to create a bootable external or CD/DVD drive, please say so and we can help you with that. There are a number of ways to accomplish that task.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
