Hello All...
i am a new member here i like linux i used to install it successfully and use it on a pentium 2 machine (red hat 7.0 - 8.0) but i have a new PC
MB --- Intel 865 Perl
CPU --- P4 2.8 Ghz
HDD --- 80 GGb 7200 RPM

any recommendations with linux versions that will work well on my PC?

Just get a modern distro, and it should be fine. You may still need to work out some bugs, but you can't expect old versions like that to run well on a new machine.

Yup, good old RH9, I can even use it on my system, and it is semi-old.
CPU - CELERON 600MhZ
RAM - 192 MB DDR
VIDEO - 8MB Trident Blade 3D/ProMedia OnBoard
SOUND - VIA '97 Chipset OnBoard
HD - 20 GB Quantam Fireball
and I am dual booting with XP on it
