    I little confusion here.

DivX is a video encoder, it produces MPEG-4 video.
AVI is a container, it binds video and audio together.
I do not think DivX project supports Linux any more. And there's no need, too. There are better MPEG-4 encoders available.

To get a better answer tell us what container, what video, what audio your player supports.

I downloaded and installed Divx 6.1.1 and there is no interface with it. My player is a no code and supports divx ultra and will play the .avi movies I get off the net. The problem is The disks I burn with K3b will not play on most players that are not no code so I need to burn them with the divx encoder or something like it and that has worked in the past for other players that support divx. Is there burning software that does the same thing as divx? I would sure hate to have to double boot with windows just to use divx or any thing else.
