    Installing linux kernel

    Hello,
    I am new to Linux.

I have downloaded linux kernel (linux-2.6.36-rc4) from here... http(://)www(.)kernel(.)org/

After that I have downloaded Grub bootloader (grub-1.98.tar.gz) from here...ftp(://)alpha(.)gnu.org/gnu/grub/

I have windows xp on my machine and now I want to compile linux kernel which I have downloaded. Also, next step assigned to me is to install that kernel onto the machine.

Can anyone tell me how to achieve that? What should be the next step to compile linux kernel??

    any help would be welcome

    Welcome to the forums!

The best kernel HowTo that I've run across is this one:

    Digital Hermit - Kernel-Build-HOWTO

It's always worked for me, so maybe it will help you, too.
