[SOLVED] Accidentally deleted /var/lib
I accidentally deleted /var/lib with the command
Im trying to run update-manager, but i get the following error.sudo rm -rf /var/lb
I tried inserting a 10.04 cd, but to no avail. An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Could not open file /var/lib/dpkg/status - open (2: No such file or directory), E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'
Im running 9.10 atm, and just finished an upgrade from 9.04.
Please help, this is my office PC, and have lots of dev packages and all.
Thanks.

Even if testdisk or other undelete tools get some files back, you can never be sure, that all will be recovered.
Backup your data and config, then reinstall that box.You must always face the curtain with a bow.

no matter, i copied the /var/lib folder from another PC. The upgrade manager gave me an option to jump to 10.04.1 LTS
